Zoomers are older, seasoned, individuals from the Baby Boomer Generation, born between 1946 and 1964, who have "ZIP" combined with a passion for living their lives to the fullest in spite of, and often in defiance of, inevitable aging. Boomers and Zoomers are all post-war era babies but are distinguishable by their attitude not age. Both Zoomers and Boomers are known for their strong opinions: however, because of their zest for life the Zoomer's point of view is often very different from the "traditional Baby Boomer." I like to think that someone had the brilliant concept of “rebranding” the stereotypical Boomer to better reflect the reality of the existence of a “young” and vibrant community of seniors.
LGBTQI2S+ individuals see the world from a different lived experience than do their “straight” kith and kin because their sexual orientation or gender identities have often presented circumstances and challenges that have formed their life’s perspective. Someone once said: “Your point of view is determined by where you are sitting” Many factors influence one's growth and development and where they see themselves in their day to day lives. Being a gay male has been an ongoing influence on who I am as an individual and being an older Zoomer makes being a senior an important factor in my everyday life. I “sit” in a place where my point of view is that of…. Get Ready! – A GayZoomer.
This blog site is a place for me to reflect on and share some ideas, thoughts and, stories about my past lived experience and to offer up my humble opinions about some of today’s challenges, issues and simple pleasures from where I “sit”. By all means, feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with me. Everyone comes from their own place and I enjoy the stimulation of sharing ideas and opinions as it is a big part of keeping the “Z” or zip and zest, in GayZoomer.
